The short version

We're a small, volunteer-powered community radio station, and we treat your privacy the way we'd want ours treated. We don't run ads. We don't set cookies. We don't ask you to make an account. We never sell, rent, or trade your information — and we collect about as little of it as a website possibly can.

The rest of this page explains the few technical details, so you can trust that the short version is true.

What we collect when you browse

Anonymous, aggregate website analytics. We run our own copy of Matomo — analytics software we host ourselves at analytics.khuh.fm, so your data never goes to Google or any other advertising company. It's configured to be as privacy-protective as the tool allows:

  • No cookies. We've turned them off, so there's nothing stored on your device and no consent banner to click through.
  • No personal identity. We don't know who you are, and we don't try to find out.
  • Your IP address is anonymized before it's ever stored — the last two groups of numbers are masked, so it can't be traced back to you. We use the masked version only to estimate a general region (roughly, which city or internet provider) so we know where our listeners are tuning in from.
  • We honor "Do Not Track." If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, we don't count your visit at all.

With that, we can see things like which pages are popular, what site linked someone to us, and roughly how many people visit — all in aggregate, never tied to an individual. That's it. We use it to make the site better, nothing more.

Server logs. Like virtually every website, our web server briefly records standard request information (such as the requesting IP address and the page requested) as part of normal operation and security.

What we don't do

  • We don't use cookies for tracking.
  • We don't run third-party advertising or ad trackers.
  • We don't sell, rent, trade, or share your information with anyone.
  • We don't build advertising or behavioral profiles about you.
  • We don't require accounts, logins, or personal details to listen or browse.

How long we keep it

Our anonymized analytics records are automatically deleted after 6 months. Aggregate summaries (like "this many visits in May") may be kept longer, but those contain no information about any individual.

When you contact us

We give you several ways to reach us — a voice-message line, a postal PO box, an email address on our contact page, and a music-submissions address. If you choose to use any of them, we'll receive whatever you decide to share (for example, your phone number, email address, return address, or the music you send).

We use that information only to respond to you or handle your submission. We don't add you to any mailing list, we don't share it with third parties, and we keep it only as long as we reasonably need it. If you've contacted us and would like us to delete your message, just ask.

Listening to the live stream

Our audio stream is delivered by a streaming server hosted with Rockhost and managed using Centova Cast software. When you press play, your device connects directly to that streaming server to receive the audio. These providers handle the technical connection needed to deliver the stream and do not collect personally identifying information about you. (Information about what's currently playing, our shows, and our schedule comes from a separate service — see below.)

Content from other services

To keep the site running and looking right, some content is loaded from other companies. When your browser requests that content, those companies can see your IP address and basic request information, under their own privacy policies. We keep this list short on purpose:

  • Show and schedule information — details about our shows, broadcasts, and weekly schedule are provided by Creek, a platform built for community radio. Your browser fetches this public information directly from Creek's servers.
  • Fonts and icons — Google Fonts and Font Awesome, for typography and icons.
  • Bluesky — if a page shows our recent posts, that content loads from Bluesky's public servers. The embed only displays public posts; it doesn't set tracking cookies or run ad trackers.
  • Blog content and images — served from our own Ghost-powered blog at blog.khuh.fm.
  • Outbound links — links to maps, our funders, social accounts, and other sites take you to services with their own privacy policies.

We don't control how these third parties handle data, but we choose them with privacy in mind and avoid embedding anything we don't need.

Keeping your information safe

We serve the whole site over a secure (HTTPS) connection, and the limited information we do handle is kept on servers we control, with access restricted to the volunteers who run the station.

Children

This site is meant for a general audience and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children included.

Your choices

Because our website doesn't use cookies or collect personal information about your browsing, there's no profile of you for us to look up, export, or delete. If you'd like an extra layer of protection anyway, browser features like "Do Not Track," private browsing, or an ad/tracker blocker will all work smoothly with our site. And if you've contacted us directly and want us to delete what you sent, just let us know.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change how the site handles data, we'll update this page and adjust the "Last updated" date above. We'll never quietly start collecting more than what's described here.
