Visible Light - Sierra de Luquillo: A Living Soundscape
Sierra de Luquillo: A Living Soundscape, the immersive new album from chamber-ambient duo Visible Light.

With attention, preservation begins.
El Yunque Rainforest pulses with sound: coquí frogs echo through the cathedral of green, as air dances through the canopy. In this living ecosystem, cellist Amy McNallyand sound artist Matthew Hiram capture thetextures of the forest, offering a new suite for deep listening and ecological connection.

Using battery-powered equipment, the duo gathered sounds of nocturnal frogs, shifting wind, and bio electrical plant signals, forming the structural elements of the composition. Moving between acoustic resonance and electronic diffusion, the work blends the lines between forest and instrument. We pass through the night, bringing gentle illumination to the surrounding shadows. The song is in the air, for those who listen.

Originally premiered as a 24-channel ambisonic performance at Reforesters Laboratory in Brooklyn, the piece now unfolds in four movements for public release, preserving the spatial depth and textural complexity of its origin. Cello and Moog synthesizer guide the listener deep into the night, while Rosewood alto flute, Sidereal gong, and brass singing bowls thread through the breathing voice of the forest.
All proceeds support the Borikua Taino Foundation, sustaining cultural identity through land stewardship, education, and community health initiatives.
