Julez And The Rollerz – "I Don't Know You" (Lolipop)

Julez And The Rollerz is a four-piece from LA made up of migrants to the Southland from back east. The strange thing is, they sound like what you’d think a grunge-tinged glam-influenced from LA would.

Grungy gritty guitar? Check. Pop harmonies? For days. Hooks? Of course. Sunny vocals belying bittersweet vocals highlighting the liminal state of getting older and the parts of you that you held precious in your early 20s fading as you reach 30? (slaps roof of single) This bad boy can hold SO MANY OF THOSE!

I say all that not to criticize them but to praise them – because damn, this single is fun. Morgyn Payge (bass) and Sarah “Spark” Park (drums) create a tight rhythm section that gels with Jules Batterman’s fierce guitar and strong voice. They sound like that dog. – oh look, there’s an LA band right there – with some East Coast grit mixed in.

Their debut Dirty Little Rock ‘N’ Roller drops June 26.
